By: Jordan Kelch, Public Relations 5 It’s been 62 years since WHAS-TV created the Crusade for Children, an annual fundraiser specifically designed to serve special needs children living in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The incredible success of this event is visible not only through the wide range of agencies and organizations involved, but also through the impressive amount of money raised. Over $170 million has been brought in over 62 years (that’s roughly 2.7 million per 12-month period), all contributed by various government agencies and city based organizations, as well as average citizens like you and me. The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office has enjoyed a long, fruitful relationship with the WHAS Crusade for Children. In fact, between the years of 2001-2011, the JCCO brought in almost $396,000.00, an accomplishment that certainly echoes our mission of layering all we do with value and integrity. Of course, the Crusade does more than simply raise funds. Afterwards, it turns around and distributes those monies to worthwhile hospitals, schools and agencies, all of which serve children in need. The act of dispersing the money raised is performed by an independent board of interdenominational ministers, known as the Crusade Advisory Panel. This panel holds grant hearings every spring, allowing representatives from various organizations to make a case on behalf of their institution. Now, avid supporters of this terrific cause can showcase their loyalty by purchasing WHAS Crusade for Children license plates. On Tuesday, September 6th, many Crusade staff members, as well as other longtime contributors, arrived at the Downtown Motor Vehicle Branch to officially order their specialty plates. County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw was on-hand to welcome the visitors and support the cause. “The WHAS Crusade for Children is one of the finest fundraising efforts in the country, as far as I’m concerned,” said Mrs. Holsclaw. “To call this undertaking remarkable is an understatement. I’m very pleased that Kentuckians can now offer additional support to the cause by purchasing these plates.” To order a Crusade for Children license plate, and to support this terrific cause, visit your local county clerk office or branch.
